The LELS Benevolent Fund provides support and financial aid for the families of LELS members and the families of other Minnesota Public Safety Professionals, who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty, regardless of their union membership.

The Benevolent Fund consists of a Board that will review the circumstances of the injury or death, and if approved, will act as the Fiscal Agent of the funds, monies and any donations. They will transfer them to the eligible recipient(s) according to law and the Fiscal Agent agreements.

The Board may also consider special needs that do not fit the definition of injury or death-in-the-line-of-duty with receipt of a written request addressed to the Board. The procedure is outlined in the By-laws of the organization.

Liberty Call - First Responder WhiskeY

In 2018, LELS created a Benevolent Fund (501c3) to assist our members and other public safety workers who are critically injured or killed in the line of duty. Since its inception, the Benevolent Fund has provided over $1.5 million dollars in funding to several First Responders and their families.

We cannot do this great work without donations and fundraising. We do not want to think about it, but we all know there will be another family that will need our help and some financial assistance. When a public safety worker is injured in the line of duty, they often times run out of injury-on-duty pay, sick leave, and short/long term disability. If a public safety worker is killed in the line of duty, it takes several months and even up to two years to get in-line of duty death benefits in place for the families left behind.
A donation from the LELS Benevolent Fund is a relief to these First Responders and their families, which will assist them with paying their mortgage, car payment, insurance, months bills, etc.

We have found a company (Liberty Call – First Responder Whiskey Society) whose mission is to support First Responders and their families. Liberty Call has created a special bottle of Bourbon Whiskey that they will sell and ship directly to your home. Once these bottles are on their website, they will always be on their website for any future purchases. If you would like to order more, feel free to do so. We would also encourage you to have your friends and family make a purchase. For every LELS bottle that is sold, Liberty Call will donate $12.50 to the LELS Benevolent Fund, which will be used to assist the next family who needs our assistance.
